The Georgia Bulldogs came back from a 17-0 halftime deficit to beat the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 44-42 in eight overtimes.
Georgia won in an instant-classic in Sanford Stadium to extend the Bulldogs’ home winning streak to 31 games. Georgia trailed throughout the entirety of regulation and allowed Georgia Tech to gain 563 total yards of offense. The Dawgs got some key red zone stops and bought just enough time for the Georgia offense to get hot in the fourth quarter.
Winner: Georgia’s playoff chances
Georgia would’ve had to win the SEC championship game to make the playoff if they lost to Georgia Tech. Now, Georgia will likely make the playoff regardless of what happens next week.
Winner: Dan Jackson
Jackson had six tackles and a forced fumble in Georgia’s dramatic win. Jackson tackled pretty well and had a key sack in overtime. He continues to make plays.
Loser: Georgia’s receivers
Georgia receivers dropped several critical passes against Georgia Tech. Arian Smith and Dominic Lovett both had crucial drops. Lovett had a momentum-changing fumble on the first half.
Winner: Carson Beck
Georgia quarterback Carson Beck faced obvious passing situations throughout the second half, but managed the game well to keep UGA alive. Beck finished the game with a gaudy statline: 28 of 43 for 297 passing yards and five touchdowns.
Loser: Georgia’s run defense
Georgia Tech gashed UGA for 260 yards and moved the ball at will for most of the night. Georgia had just three tackles for a loss all game and missed countless tackles.
Winner/loser: The fans who stayed/left
Georgia fans saw one of the most unique games in Sanford Stadium history. However, a number of fans left after Georgia Tech went up 20-6 and 27-13, respectively. Those who left early missed out on a 17-point comeback win and eight overtimes.
