Winner of Aldi’s Supermarket Sweep Govan raises £715 for foodbank

The winner of Aldi’s Supermarket Sweep in Govan has raised £715.20 for a local foodbank while picking up over £350 in items for herself.

Aldi’s popular Supermarket Sweep recently arrived in Govan and lucky shopper Hannah Holmes, who was chosen as the winner of an in-store competition, took part in the five-minute trolley dash for charity on Sunday (April 3).

As well as taking home a trolley full of goodies, Hannah successfully found the hidden inflatable in store, meaning Aldi Scotland doubled the total value of her haul and donated the lump sum to her nominated foodbank, The Govan Pantry.

She said: “I’d like to say a huge thanks to the team at Aldi for the opportunity to take part in such a fun event. As a teacher, I was able to grab some much-needed supplies for our school breakfast club, as well as being able to raise an amazing amount for the lovely team at The Govan Pantry who popped along to cheer me on. The pandemic has hit families so hard, and sadly things are only getting worse, so I hope my 5-minute dash around the aisles will help those that need it most.”

Stephen McFadden, The Govan Pantry, said: “It was fantastic to be part of Aldi’s Supermarket Sweep. I’d like to say a big thanks to Hannah who did an amazing shop, and to the team at Aldi for matching the amount she raised. This will really make a huge difference.”

Richard Holloway, Regional Managing Director for Scotland, added: “We are proud that the Aldi Supermarket Sweep is a firm favourite across the country, and we are so pleased to bring it back this year. Congratulations to Hannah who managed to raise an incredible £715.20 for The Govan Pantry and snap up a whole load of Aldi treats for herself.”

Aldi’s Supermarket Sweep will return to Glasgow this month, giving more savvy shoppers the chance to rummage through the aisles for a good cause. Applications for the Gushetfaulds store will open from Monday 25 April – Sunday 1 May. Customers can apply in-store or by emailing supermarketsweep@aldi.co.uk.
