Winks not named in Sampdoria squad, Udogie wows, Ndombele frustration - Tottenham loan latest

Tottenham have a total of nine players out on loan at present following plenty of transfer movement in north London this summer. Signing seven players, as well as confirming the permanent arrival of Cristian Romero, a number of the Spurs squad moved on as a result so they could get regular first-team football elsewhere.

With a couple remaining in England and getting experience in the EFL, the majority of the players have headed across Europe and will be playing their football in countries such as Italy, Spain, France and Sweden in 2022/23. So how are they all getting on at present? football.london takes a look.

Destiny Udogie (Udinese)

The club's seventh signing of the summer will return to the capital in 2023/24 after re-joining Udinese on a season-long loan deal. Making a big name for himself with the Serie A side last campaign as he produced some eye-catching performances and contributed with five goals and three assists from 37 games, the 19-year-old has started the new term where he left off back in May.

Scoring for Udinese's against Monza at the end of August, the left wing-back was on the scoresheet last weekend as he netted the first at the back post in their convincing 4-0 win over Jose Mourinho's Roma. He was praised by Tuttomercatorweb after the game and given a rating of 7.5 for his performance.

They wrote: "Dominated along the left-hand side by rapaciously scoring the 1-0 opening goal. He has Destiny in his name, and if he continues like this he will also have the blue jersey [of Italy].”

An away trip to Sassuolo is next up for Udogie and his Udinese teammates.

Joe Rodon (Rennes)

Rodon is getting regular football under his belt after making the move to Rennes at the start of August. After dropping to the bench for their Ligue 1 win over Ajaccio, the Welshman has played the full 90 minutes in their past four games, notably scoring in their 3-1 victory against Brest.

Involved in a 1-1 draw with Troyes last weekend, Rodon and his new teammates helped the French side start their Europa League campaign with a stoppage-time 2-1 win over AEK Larnaca on Thursday evening. A home game against Auxerre is on the agenda on Sunday afternoon before they return to European action with a home clash against Fenerbahce.

Troy Parrott (Preston North End)

The goals have just not flowed for Parrott or Preston in the Championship this season with the Lancashire club only scoring once in their first eight games. The Republic of Ireland did get off the mark in the 4-1 Carabao Cup win over Huddersfield Town at the start of August, though.

What is good news for all at Tottenham is that the young striker has started all eight of their Championship games, playing 680 minutes in total. In their 1-0 defeat against Birmingham City last weekend, Parrott was given a rating of five by LancashireLive.

They wrote: "Threatened again in the final third but lacked the conviction and confidence when the chances came along. No clear-cut, glaring opportunities, but you wanted him to do more in the final third. Worked hard once again; his display didn't lack any graft."

Dane Scarlett (Portsmouth)

While Parrott may be lacking the conviction in front of goal at present, Scarlett is thriving after scoring his fourth goal in three games for Portsmouth. Manager Danny Cowley did state that the young striker would go on a goalscoring run once he netted his first, and that has proved to be very much the case.

The 18-year-old was the hero for Pompey last weekend with a fine double in their brilliant 2-1 win over promotion rivals Peterborough. His first was a superb header as he threw himself at the ball to find the bottom corner after getting ahead of his marker, with his second just as good as he showed his composure in the area to fire low into the net and leave Lucas Bergstrom helpless in the Posh goal.

“He’s ruthless and I’ve seen him score those headed goals before, so I’ve been moaning about when they were going to come for us," Cowley told Portsmouth's official website after the victory.

“He is so sharp with his movement and so brave. He’ll flash across the front and put his head where other people don’t want to. It was great for Josh to come on and make the impact he did. It was a lovely pass and Dane used the defender as a shield before a smart finish."

Tanguy Ndombele (Napoli)

Ndombele has had to make do with a place on the Napoli bench since his loan switch to the Serie A side. Only starting one game for them so far, he was brought off after 45 minutes in the 1-1 draw with Lecce.

Coming on for one minute in the brilliant 2-1 away victory at Lazio last Saturday, he was then an unused substitute in midweek as Luciano Spalletti's team demolished Liverpool 4-1 in the Champions League. The Frenchman will be hoping more minutes come his way prior to the international break with Spezia, Rangers and AC Milan coming up over the next week.

Harry Winks (Sampdoria)

Winks has yet to make his debut for Sampdoria since joining the Italian side on a season-long loan deal. Greeting the crowd and his new teammates after their 1-1 draw with Lazio just over a week ago, he was then not named in matchday squad for last Sunday's 2-1 defeat at Verona.

According to Calciomercato, the midfielder has an ankle injury at present, and they also report that the player is not there in terms of his physical condition just yet. Clearly not wanting to push Winks and risk a further setback, the player has missed out on squad selection to face AC Milan this weekend.

The 26-year-old will be hoping to be back for the away game at Spezia before the first international break of the season takes place.

Sergio Reguilon (Atletico Madrid)

Another player still waiting to make his debut for his new club is Reguilon, The left-back is still recovering from a groin injury and has yet to be included in the squad by Diego Simeone as a result.

Celta Vigo, Bayer Leverkusen and city rivals Real Madrid are next up for Atleti before league football pauses for the international break.

Giovani Lo Celso (Villarreal)

Lo Celso has slotted straight back into life with Villarreal and has so far featured in five matches. Last weekend he did net his first goal since returning to Unai Emery's side as he swept the ball into the top corner for their second in their 4-0 triumph over Elche.

An unused substitute on Thursday evening in their 4-3 win over Lech Poznan in the Europa Conference League, the Argentina international will be pushing for a recall when they travel to his former club Real Betis on Sunday evening.

Alfie Whiteman (Degerfors)

Whiteman has been a regular in goal for Swedish side Degerfors since returning to them back in February for the duration of the 2022 season. His club are currently 14th out of 16 teams in Allsvenskan and they ideally need to pick up the points sooner rather than later with Helsingborg only two points behind them.

The shot-stopper has yet to keep a clean sheet this campaign, with a 2-2 draw against Hacken their last result in the league. They host Mjallby at the weekend, who are eighth in the standings after 21 games.
