A fire service spokesperson said: "All persons were confirmed to be accounted for and firefighters continued damping down the scene while checking for fire spread. Following the completion of temperature monitoring checks, no hotspots were identified."

Fire crews remained at the scene until 3.41am on Saturday, and the incident was handed over to Merseyside Police. Photos show the scale of damage caused by the blaze, with several windows smashed on the house and others boarded up.

Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service said a full joint investigation will take place to ascertain the cause of the fire.
