Window blasted with shotgun as police trace suspicious car to Merseyside

A shotgun was fired at the window of a house and cars before the alleged offenders sped off.

Detectives say one suspicious vehicle believed to be associated with the shooting, in Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire, was traced to Merseyside while another was traced to Staffordshire. The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, August 28, on Monarch Street in the town after "several people attended an address".

No-one was injured in the attack but damage was caused to a front window of the property and three parked vehicles. Lancashire Police launched a major investigation and later on Sunday arrested a 39-year-old man on suspicion of firearms offences, while a 36-year-old man was arrested on Monday.

Detective Inspector Iain Czapowski, of Lancashire Police's East CID, said: “While we have now made two arrests, we are still in the early stages of what is a large-scale and complex investigation, and our enquiries are very much continuing.

"I would continue to appeal to anyone who has any information which could assist to come forward and contact police and I would reassure members of the local community that we are doing all we can to identify those responsible for this incident and to bring them to justice.

"We have all seen in recent weeks the absolutely devastating impact that the criminal use of firearms on our streets can have and we simply will not tolerate this sort of violence in Lancashire where there was total disregard whether anyone was hurt or even killed.

"We continue to have extra police officers out and about in the area and I would urge anyone with concerns or information to speak to them."

Anyone with information can also contact Lancashire Police on 101 quoting log number 0087 of Sunday (August 28 th ). Alternatively contact independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
