Windhorst: There is an expectation of an extension offer to Anthony Davis

Although the Los Angeles Lakers are expected by many to contend for the NBA championship this season, they likely have an eye on what may come beyond that.

Anthony Davis has two years left on his contract, the second of which is a player option. The earliest the Lakers can offer him an extension will be Friday, Aug. 4, and there has been speculation whether they will do so right away or wait.

Brian Windhorst said on the “Brian Windhorst & the Hoop Collective” podcast that both sides are expected to talk about an extension.

Via Silver Screen and Roll:

“I do think there is an expectation that the Lakers make some sort of offer or show their intention to make some sort of offer.”

If, or when, Davis signs an extension with Los Angeles, the question would be if LeBron James will follow suit in order to remain with the team. James’ contract will also expire in 2025, and he can also opt out of the 2024-25 season and become a free agent next summer.
