Although LeBron James played in Sunday’s NBA All-Star Game, he has reportedly mostly used the long All-Star break to rest and recuperate.
He has been dealing with an ankle ailment for some time, and he has consistently been listed on the Los Angeles Lakers’ injury report as a result. He sought treatment options before the midseason classic, and he reportedly received treatment on his ailing ankle.
James will therefore miss Thursday’s game between the Lakers and Golden State Warriors in San Francisco. His team will return home afterward to host the San Antonio Spurs on Friday.
According to Brian Windhorst, the hope is that by getting this treatment and missing some time, he will be able to “finish the season stronger.”
Via ESPN:
“James said at Sunday’s All-Star Game he would use the break to get additional treatment on peroneal tendinopathy,” wrote Windhorst. “He didn’t specify the nature of the treatment but hinted he could miss the Warriors game.
“James has missed one game of back-to-back sets three previous times this season to manage the ankle. James only played a half Sunday, in part, to ease the workload on the ankle.
“There isn’t a significant concern James will miss extended time, but the hope is the treatment will enable him to finish the season stronger, league sources told ESPN.”
The 39-year-old also sat out the Lakers’ last game before the All-Star break, which was in Salt Lake City versus the Utah Jazz. Without him, L.A. won, 138-122.
The Lakers are on a three-game winning streak and have won 11 of their last 16 contests. They are 30-26 and are in ninth place in the Western Conference.
