Wimbledon day three starts with a bit more optimism after day two's lacked substance thanks to the British weather ruining it for tennis lovers out there. However, a far brighter forecast means there is hope to see plenty of action beyond Centre Court and Court One but many eyes will be there to witness Novak Djokovic continue his mission of equalling Roger Federer's record of eight Wimbledon titles.
When Djokovic steps onto Centre Court today - with an eighth SW19 title on his mind - he may be forgiven for doing a double-take when he sees his opponent. After all, the fresh-faced figure opposite is none other than Jordan Thompson, the wide-eyed kid Djokovic once practised with at the Australian Open many years ago. Now 24, the Sydney native is a fully-fledged professional, ready to take on the world's best - although the world number 1 is priced at 1/100 with Betfred to win this.
Over on the Women's competition and favourite Iga Swiatek will take on Spaniard Sara Sorribes Tormo on Centre Court with the number one seed priced at 1/33 to secure a place in the third round. The 22-year-old Pole has started strongly already in this competition with an impressive 6-1. 6-3 win against Zhu Lin of China whereas Tormo, ranked 82 in the world, saw off Italian MArtina Travisan 6-3, 6-1. All indicators point for a swift, straight-set match win for Swiatek.
Back to the men's side, and it's great to see Milos Raonic back in action after the 32-year-old had to take a lengthy break due to injury in 2021. The former world number three, now ranked 849, returned a couple of weeks ago in Herogenbosch, where he beat Miomir Kecmanovic in his first match back, but lost to Jordan Thompson 7-6, 6-1. But Raonic might well struggle in the best-of-five format which will give his opponent, Dennis Novak, the upper-hand on court 16.
