Wimbledon 6/30 Preview: Bernakis Vs. Nadal

Day four of Wimbledon saw the return of Rafael Nadal and Iga Swiatek following the crushing losses to both home favourites on Wednesday when Andy Murray and Emma Raducanu suffered second-round exits on Centre Court.

Nadal overcame errors and long rain delay to beat Ricardas Berankis and bolster his bid for a third crown at the All England Club. After a sloppy start Nadal produced at the important moments and came out to quickly break Berankis in the fourth as his opponent attempted to mount a comeback, on his way to a 6-4 6-4 3-6 6-3 win.

Swiatek’s struggles with grass seemed to continue, as the World No 1 needed three set to defeat the lucky loser Lesley Pattinama Kerkhove on Court One. Swiatek had to dig deep at times to pull out a 6-4 4-6 6-3 victory, that extended her winning streak to 37 wins.

Meanwhile, British hopes at Wimbledon were revived by a sensational performance from Katie Boulter, who fought from a set down to defeat former World No 1 Karolina Pliskova on Centre Court. It came after Heather Watson finished off Wang Qiang to reach the third round in a match that was interrupted from last night, but Alastair Gray was defeated in straight sets by Taylor Fritz.

Earlier, a stunning display from Nick Kyrgios fired the Australian to a straight sets win over Filip Krajinovic. Kyrgios was faultless in running away with the victory in 85 minutes and will face Stefanos Tsitsipas in round three after the number four seed beat Jordan Thompson in straight sets.
