Newcastle United hung on to end the season with a 2-1 victory at Burnley, to send the Clarets down, The Magpies were hit by an early blow when Brazilian midfielder Joelinton was forced off with an ankle injury after a collision.
But that didn't put the visitors off their stride, and they took the lead when Matt Lowton handled in the box and, after a VAR check, the referee pointed to the spot. Callum Wilson made no mistake from 12 yards to put United into the lead.
The home side needed to respond, but Newcastle controlled the first half for long periods, although Dwight McNeil flashed a left-footed shot just over the bar.
Allan Saint-Maximin could have made it 2-0 just before the break after outpacing Josh Brownhill, only to see Nick Pope pull off an excellent save.

Burnley threw Wout Weghorst on at the break, but following Leeds' opener at Brentford, had to pile men forward, and United took advantage. Wilson was already furious that Almiron didn't play him in on the break, when Saint-Maximin got free and rolled the ball over for the No 9 to double the lead.
The hosts pulled one back through Max Cornet, and then Matt Targett had to be alert to turn Jack Cork's effort off the line. Newcastle almost had a third when Wilson played Bruno in, but the Brazilian slipped at the vital moment.
