Willie Gay Cleared the Air With Zach Wilson After Mocking Jets' Offense

Chiefs linebacker Willie Gay says he apologized to Zach Wilson after their game on Sunday night over some comments he made about the Jets quarterback leading into the Week 4 matchup.

Speaking with reporters on Monday, Gay confirmed that he sought out Wilson after Kansas City’s narrow win on Sunday in order to clear the air over his comments.

“Told him he’s a great player and I didn’t mean anything like that. But he knew that already. I just wanted to talk to him myself,” said Gay of his conversation with Wilson, via Josina Anderson of CBS Sports.

Gay said that Wilson responded by saying there were no hard feelings between the two.

Leading into Sunday’s matchup, Gay was asked about what he saw from New York’s offense. He responded by saying he saw a team that “wants to run the ball.”

In the Jets’ 23–20 loss, they leaned heavily on Wilson. He attempted 39 passes, the third-highest tally of his career, and set a career-high with 28 completions.

Sunday Night Football was expected to be a lopsided affair for which the Chiefs were heavily favored. Despite not coming away with a win, Wilson proved his doubters wrong on Sunday, including Gay.
