Whistler Willie Collum was the centre of attention at Easter Road and Rangers fans reckon Scottish officials could do with a boot up the VARS.
The man in the middle sent off John Lundstram and Alfredo Morelos against Hibs while Robbie Neilson, David Martindale and just about everyone else had a whinge about decisions over the weekend. VAR is coming for Christmas but it’s not soon enough for some. Irwin Houston, Giffnock, said: “Willie Collum made Saturday’s game all about him.
“A totally pathetic and inept performance from the man in black. Spoiled an entertaining game. VAR can’t come soon enough and heaven forbid he isn’t running it.” Stuart Jackson, via email, said: “Just a few weeks into the season and the decision to introduce VAR in the middle of the campaign has come back and slapped the league in the face. Collum, Walsh and Clancy are the Three Stooges.
“The desperation that Collum searched in his pockets for a card showed how egotistical this guy really is. Walsh managed to award a penalty for the ball striking the chest of a Livi player and Kevin Clancy saw 11 fouls committed by Celtic with no cards shown and 12 for Hearts with nine cards.”
John Bruce, Glasgow, said: “The inconsistency of Scottish referees was shown to be alive and well at the weekend. Already we have Rangers involved in a poor refereeing decision that cost them points, while Celtic – like last season – already appear to be benefiting from decisions and seem to be immune to cards.”
Scott Gowers, Edinburgh, said: “Surely after this weekend's officiating in the SPFL matches shows VAR or full time officials are needed now. Officials should be downgraded when they get things so badly wrong, the only problem being is we'll have no officials left. Hopefully the SFA can see this and take the necessary action now before fans turn their backs on our beautiful game as a result of officials' constant errors which is ruining the integrity of SPFL.”
Dr Robert S Pender emailed: “Surely it is time to demote these referees down to lowland or Junior leagues for up to six weeks. This would burst their ego and poor performance.”
Rangers slipped up at Hibs but someone here is at the wind up. Ian Lake, Falkirk, said: "So yet again another weekend and more dodgy decisions costing Rangers vital points. I think we should get Neil Lennon in as manager as he wouldn't stand for this nonsense week in week out, unlike our too nice management team.”
Anyway, Drew Ferguson, Oban, said: “From the start of the season Rangers have not been fluent and punishing teams with loads of possession but no cutting edge. PSV will be next level up and I fear for Rangers in Eindhoven if they don’t raise their game.”
Hoops fan Paul McCormack, Coatbridge, said: “The actions of a broody, moody Morelos had more bearing on the result than the inept ref. Not the first time he's cost his team points and not the first time another scapegoat is looked out.”
Bud Hay, Dumfries, said: “Here we go again with Rangers crying about referees. They are not good enough." Stephen Johnstone, Ardentinny, added: “Rangers' defence reminds me of the mighty Bismarck battleship – rudderless and going round in circles.
“Hibs exposed them and got a well-deserved draw. But if Rangers turn up against PSV with this defence they will get sunk and their champions league dream will be over. It could be van Bronckhorst's last game and he is replaced by big Duncy Ferguson.”
Celtic’s 100 per cent record was maintained against Hearts and Kenny Wilson, Moffat, said: “Hardly a scintillating performance from Celtic but still totally dominated the game and it’s another clean sheet.”
Stephen Mulher, Dumbarton, said: “I hope Ange Postecoglou has his thinking cap on as to having Kyogo and Giakoumakis in his starting lineup. He’s too good a talent to be clicking his heels on the bench."
