Willian makes brutally honest Arsenal admission ahead of Fulham Premier League clash

Fulham winger Willian has admitted he wished he never joined Arsenal in a brutally honest interview.

The Brazilian left Chelsea in the summer of 2020, joining the Mikel Arteta revolution on a free transfer. However, things didn't work out at the Emirates Stadium for the 34-year-old, as he scored just one goal in 37 appearances for Arteta's side.

Eventually, he left N5 after just one season, with his contract mutually terminated before enduring another difficult spell this time at Brazilian side Corinthians. Now, Willian is back in the English top flight, playing for Fulham, who host Arsenal to Craven Cottage this afternoon (Sunday) in a crucial match at the top of the Premier League table.

Ahead of the highly-anticipated match, the veteran attacker has admitted he made a mistake leaving the Blues for their London rivals. "Yeah. I wish I’d never left," he told Sky Sports when asked if he harboured any regrets about leaving Stamford Bridge.

"Of course, it’s easy to say something now, but when I stop to think about the whole situation then yeah, I say to myself I wish I’d never left. But it’s life. I’m happy now at Fulham - enjoying myself there, so this is life.”

When speaking about the Gunners' current upturn in form, he added: "They are flying now. I don’t know, I think I came while it was changing a lot.

“I was excited when I signed with them, I was training hard but it just didn’t work.”
