Arsenal have triggered the clause in William Saliba's contract to extend his current deal until June 2024, football.london understands.
Saliba has immersed himself as one of Mikel Arteta's stand out performers this season in his breakthrough campaign in north London. The defender returned to the Emirates Stadium in the summer after being loaned to Marseille last term and is now a key member of the Gunners' back four.
The club have triggered the clause in the 21-year-old's contract to ensure his deal extends a further 12 months.

With French giants Paris-Saint Germain reportedly monitoring the defender's development in England, football.london also understands that talks are progressing well over a fresh deal in an attempt to secure Saliba's services for the long-term.
Saliba was part of France's World Cup squad but managed only one appearance as Didier Deschamps' side finished runners-up to Argentina in Qatar. However, with the 2024 European Championships fast approaching, the defender is expected to be a valuable member of Les Blues squad over the next few years.
Saliba joins Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martnelli as players Arsenal remain keen on keeping hold of. The attacking duo's current deals expire in 2024 and it's understood that the club are in the process of tying them down to extended deals.
Prior to the trip to Brighton, Arteta was questioned on Saliba's contract situation and the Gunners boss was on hand to provide an update. "We have a few of those that we are willing to extend the contract. Willy is one of them," Arteta told football.london.
"I think he's shown in the months that he's been with us the quality and personality he has to play at the level that we want. We are trying to do that because we know he can be a really important part of our plans."
