William Gallas believes that there is 'too much damage' in Tottenham's squad for new acting head coach Ryan Mason to turn things around against Manchester United.
Following the embarrassing 6-1 defeat at Newcastle United, which brought five goals in the first 21 minutes, Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy decided to sack interim boss Cristian Stellini just four matches after he replaced Antonio Conte, a man Stellini had worked with on and off, and known, for decades.
Levy again turned to Mason, as he did when he sacked Jose Mourinho in 2021. The young coach was then 29-years-old and won four of his six Premier League games in charge. Now 31, the former Spurs midfielder must take on a tougher set of fixtures which begin on Thursday with the visit of Manchester United and then a trip on Sunday to Liverpool.

Gallas was at the club while Mason was a young player on the fringes of the first team squad and heading out on loan, and the Frenchman believes the club's third manager of the season is going to struggle because of the problems within the squad he will coach.
"Antonio Conte was sacked. His assistant, Stellini, took over and has been sacked. Ryan Mason is in charge now and I don’t know how they are going to win the next game against Manchester United on Thursday. Even if Ryan Mason knows the players very well, I think there is too much damage in the squad," Gallas told Genting Casino.
"They have to be really strong on Thursday to get a positive result against Manchester United and have to play with more passion than they have been showing and to respect they shirt they are wearing. Following the game against Newcastle, the fans will want to see a good reaction from the players.
"There is a chance that Tottenham can get the three points against Manchester United but it won’t be easy. I hope they will qualify for Europe, but I think it will be very hard and I think they will miss out."
