The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge sent a clear message to the public by taking Prince George and Princess Charlotte on a surprise Jubilee visit, a royal expert has said.
The two youngsters carried out their first-ever official engagement when they joined their parents on a trip to Cardiff Castle on Saturday.
It was unknown that they were to accompany their parents and when there they met performers and those staging a special Jubilee concert, which was taking place in the castle grounds.
And according to royal expert Camilla Tominey, the decision by William and Kate to take their two oldest children on the visit had the Queen's blessing - and was to show they are the future of the monarchy.
Writing in The Telegraph, she said: "By carrying out their first official royal engagement with their children in Cardiff on Saturday, William and Kate were sending a clear message with the Queen’s blessing – we are the future.
"And that is not to disrespect the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall, who have grown closer to the Cambridges in the wake of “Megxit”, as demonstrated by the warmth between the couples at St Paul’s, when Charles blew Kate an affectionate kiss before the royal procession and the touching moment during the pageant when Prince Louis sat on his grandfather’s lap.

"It’s simply about reassuring the public that there is not one but three generations of monarchy determined to continue the Queen’s illustrious legacy."
George and Charlotte have been busy young royals over the Queen's Platinum Jubilee weekend.
They were also at Trooping the Colour, enjoyed the spectacular Platinum Party at the Palace concert, watched the Jubilee Pageant and were on the balcony for the weekend's grand finale.
But it was younger brother Prince Louis who stole the show with two very cheeky appearances during the long weekend.
At Trooping the Colour on Thursday, he waved enthusiastically to the crowds and was pictured adorably covering his ears during the RAF flypast.
While at yesterday's Pageant, he had a cheeky warning from Mike Tindall, who sat behind the young prince after he was snapped putting his fingers in his ears, throwing a cushion around and dancing.
He was also spotted pointing at Kate making her laugh, blowing raspberries at her, wriggling around in his seat and enjoying a cuddle while sitting on his grandad Prince Charles' knee.
