William and Kate are 'modern parents' who 'don't use the naughty step', says expert

The Cambridge children stole the show over the Platinum Jubilee weekend - and now an expert has shared an insight into Kate Middleton and Prince William's parenting style.

Royal expert Jennie Bond says the pair are "modern parents" who use "emotional intelligence" and aren't interested in using techniques such as the 'naughty step' to teach their kids a lesson.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are parents to Prince George, eight, Princess Charlotte, seven, and Prince Louis, four.

The four-year-old stole the show during the weekend - and was seen playfully blowing raspberries at his mum - just after a cheeky encounter with Mike Tindall.

Now speaking to OK! about the royal couple's parenting styles, Jennie Bond said: "I think William and Catherine are making a good job of giving their children as much of a normal upbringing as possible.

"The family dynamics look to be very normal. They both, William in particular, have spoken before about the importance of mental health and giving their children emotional intelligence and the space to tell their parents how they're feeling and what their emotions are."

She added: "I've read that they have a very modern way of parenting where, instead of putting your child on the naughty step, you allow your child to explain why they feel how they do and have a conversation about it so they can express themselves and calm down that way.

"The result seems to be that they are children who are broadly well behaved. Louis didn't misbehave over the Jubilee, but he was mischievous as four-year-olds are."

Yesterday, Royal Mike Tindall says Prince Louis was 'on a sugar high' during the Platinum Jubilee pageant - where his cheeky expressions went viral.

The Rugby star, 43, is married to Princess Anne's daughter Zara, and attended all the major royal events over the past few days.

Appearing on his podcast The Good, The Bad and The Rugby, Mike was quizzed about his experience over the four-day celebration by his co-hosts James Haskell and Alex Payne

He said: "Louis was just wanting to have fun.

"And my two are always mischievous, so it was just trying to keep a lid on it. There were a lot of sweets out back though, so they had complete sugar-highs."

He added: "It was tough for them, they’re all young, asking them to sit in there from two until five is a long time. As any parent knows, you just do whatever needs to be done.”
