Streaming giant Netflix has started to warn UK customers who are sharing accounts 'outside their household'.
Netflix has started to notify UK customers they must pay £4.99 extra if they want to share their accounts with someone outside their household. In a statement posted online on Tuesday, the streaming giant said 'starting today' they will be emailing members ways they can share their accounts.
Users found breaking the rules are expected to face penalties, which could include being blocked from their accounts from today. The changes came after Netflix began a crackdown on account sharing last year, having lost subscribers amid stiffer competition and rising inflation.

The extra fee is the same price as a Netflix account with adverts. A 'standard' plan costs £10.99 and the 'premium' plan costs £15.99, meaning customers could be paying over £20 to be able to use their account as they could in the past.

Netflix users have complained about the fee, saying 'they'll lose customers'. On Facebook Jason Williams said he shares his account with 'immediate family outside of the house,' but said he 'will likely cancel once I get the email', adding '£16 a month is enough'.
Sarah Jane said it was a 'joke', and that 'you pay for it so it's up to you if you want to share your password'.
