Will Titans GM Mike Borgonzi make any coaching changes?

The Tennessee Titans landed on a new general manager last week, hiring Kansas City Chiefs assistant general manager Mike Borgonzi. He didn’t have many connections to the Titans prior to his hiring, but he is very connected throughout the league and is well-known as a great personnel manager. The Titans goal is clear: Rebuild the right way.

To that end, while we already know that Brian Callahan will remain the head coach, will Borgonzi make any other coaching changes? We obviously won’t know until (or if) it happens, but some are specifically questioning if special teams coordinator Colt Anderson should be replaced.

The Titans special teams unit started the season well with Jha’Quan Jackson at the top of the rankings in return yards. But something happened after the first few weeks and Anderson lost whatever his unit built. They ended the season 22nd in kick returns and 28th in punt returns.

Special teams is arguably the most important unit on any team. It is responsible for dictating field position, which has a direct impact on a team’s ability to score. On top of that, Anderson made public comments that lessened his credibility with fans and made it seem like he didn’t really know what he should be doing.

Borgonzi will undoubtedly speak with other coaches and players to get a feel for how things are going in the locker room before he makes any decisions, but Anderson is one we could see replaced before all is said and done.
