Will there be an Anchorman 3? Paul Rudd speaks about where Brian Fantana would be today

Anchorman 3 hasn’t been officially announced, though there are plenty of conversations going around since the release of the second film.

And now the franchise’s Paul Rudd has even revealed a potential storyline for the movie.

Rudd spoke with website Joe about where he believes his adored Brian Fantana character would be in the modern world.

He began by stating that Fantana would most likely be idle these days, since he would have been "cancelled in some way” – if he were even still alive.

“If Brian was still with us, he’d probably live in a small studio apartment and he’d be doing a podcast to no-one, and for no-one.”

In terms of whether or not the plot could be explored in a third film, Rudd said: “Nobody has ever talked about it. They’d probably all try to have podcasts, wouldn’t they? And no-one would listen.”

The Anchorman series is one of the best-received and most well-made comedic franchises of the 21st century.

The story follows newsreader Ron Burgundy and his colleagues, including ground-breaking anchor woman Veronica Corningstone, in the male-dominated sexist media world of the 1970s, in 2004’s Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy. It was followed up in 2013 with the release of Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues.

Therefore, it has been a good 10 years since we saw the last of Anchorman.

Despite the second film having a $50 million budget, the movie made $173.6 million (£137 million) at the worldwide box office and received a 75 per cent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

A decade ago, the director of both films, Adam McKay, did suggest there would be no third Anchorman film, but then took back what he said in a separate interview.

“I said about a month ago that we’d never do a third one, and I realised that was a little too harsh because, the truth is, I really don’t know. With these movies, you really don’t know how they’ve played until about two years after they come out, when people see them on repeat viewing. That tends to be how our movies work.”

So, there is still hope for a third Anchorman film. After all, the film is quite a big deal...
