The Mandalorian season three has finally reached its conclusion. Just eight weeks after returning after a two-year break, the hit Disney+ series set in the Star Wars universe has wrapped up its third outing in dramatic fashion.
Reaction to the latest series has been mixed, but the final two episodes did not disappoint. In this week’s episode – Chapter 24: The Return – Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal), Grogu, Bo-Katan (Katee Sackhoff) and the entire Mandalorian tribe go up against the Imperial remnants led by Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito).
After a tense battle in the depths of Mandalore, Gideon and his Beskar-enhanced Stormtroopers were defeated, with Grogu – AKA Baby Yoda – saving the day by using the Force. The epic finale offered a perfect happy ending for the titular bounty hunter and his little green apprentice, neatly rounding off the three-season story arc that also carried through the 2021 spin-off The Book of Boba Fett.

So now the unlikely duo’s adventure is over, it begs the question: What’s next for The Mandalorian?
Will there be a season four of The Mandalorian?
Although not yet officially announced, The Mandalorian showrunner Jon Favreau has confirmed that the script for season four was written before the latest season had even aired. Speaking to BFM TV in February, he said: “Season four, yeah I’ve written it already.
“We have to know where we’re going to tell a fully formed story. So we mapped it out, Dave [Filoni] and I, and slowly you start to write each episode.
“I was writing it during post-production [of season three] because all of it has to feel like a continuation and one full story.”

Favreau explained that because he and Filoni are also working on upcoming Star Wars spin-offs Ahsoka and Skeleton Crew, they need to “understand what’s happening on other shows” as they “all take place within the same Star Wars time period.” He added: “There’s a lot more things that we’ve got to keep in mind and also stuff that we’ve built up to from previous seasons of The Mandalorian as well.”
Given Disney is yet to officially announce the next season of The Mandalorian, it is unclear when it will be released. Seasons one and two were released less than a year apart, but the Covid pandemic left fans waiting more than two years for season three.
Considering season four already has a script, it could be expected to drop some time in 2024. Teasing further details regarding the future of the series, executive producer and director Rick Famuyiwa spoke to Collider during Star Wars Celebration earlier this month and confirmed the team is “deep into starting the prep and the pre-production process.”
Elsewhere during the three-day event, Filoni suggested filming for the next series of The Mandalorian could start late this year. In the meantime, Ahsoka – starring Rosario Dawson as the titular Jedi – is set to drop on Disney+ in August, while Skeleton Crew – a coming-of-age story starring Jude Law – is expected to drop later in the year.
It was also recently announced that Filoni will direct a new Star Wars film alongside Favreau, who will serve as producer. Their flick will be set in the era of the New Republic and will wrap up the interconnected stories told in the Disney+ shows – colloquially known as the MandoVerse.
