Will there be a Celebrity Traitors and who could take part? Joe Marler 'signs up' for show

Rugby legend Joe Marler has been linked to appearing in the first series of Celebrity Traitors and is said to have joined up with his castmates weeks before filming.

On the back of the news that host Claudia Winkleman has been nominated for an RTS Award, speculation is building around who might appear in the forthcoming series.

The BBC has already announced that the next series of the hit game show will be a celebrity version - and fans have been gossiping about which big names could appear.

Details about the release date and cast list are still a matter of speculation at the moment, but Marler could be a big asset to the show.

The 34-year-old retired from playing at the end of last year and has since been a regular on podcasts and has also worked as a pundit.

Here are all of the names in the frame for a celebrity series of Traitors.

Will there be a celebrity Traitors and which celebs could take part?

All we know about the series

The BBC said last August that a series of The Traitors would involve celebrities and would have nine episodes. It will, of course, be presented by Winkleman.

Former House of Commons Speaker John Bercow and Love Island star Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu have both already been in a celebrity Traitors filmed in the US but this is the first UK edition.

The celebrity series will be filmed in the Scottish Highlands, although it has not been said who will be in it and when it will be released.

A fourth series featuring members of the public will follow on, the BBC has confirmed.

Kalpna Patel-Knight, the BBC's head of entertainment, said: “The Traitors has well and truly established itself as an unmissable highlight of the year and the news of a fourth outing, alongside a brand-new celebrity version coming to the BBC, will take the series to a whole new level.”

Is Sir Stephen Fry set to be a Traitor? (Claudio Raschella / PA)

Social media is rife with speculation although no names have been confirmed.

Traitors fan Matty Mohan-Hickson has reported in Edinburgh News that Alan Carr, Stephen Fry, and Daisy May Cooper are names to look out for.

Hello Rayo has published a similar list of names but added Richard Osman, Claire Balding, Tom Daley, Vernon Kaye and his wife, Tess Daly.

The Metro has thrown a few other names into the mix. Danny Dyer, Alison Hammond, Bob Mortimer, Jason Manford, and Adam Woodyatt are among them.

Former rugby player Joe Marler is another name that has been linked, with The Sun reporting in March that he had joined up with players a week before filming.

Again, none of these have been confirmed and many have been rereported – with Fry and Balding being the most popular names quotes.

So, much like at the roundtable, there is little evidence– but people are more than happy to have their say anyway.

It all means, at this point, that the BBC has not denied that fans could soon see Gemma Collins voting off David Attenborough… But believe anything when it is confirmed.

Station chief Ms Patel-Knight has not given anything away, instead adding "It will once again be fascinating for our audiences to see who’ll outwit, outplay, and outlast.

“Let the mind games begin!"
