As the rest of the Queen's family make the journey to Scotland to visit her, public figures across the country are sending their thoughts to the Royal Family at this difficult time. Prime Minister Liz Truss has said that "the whole country will be deeply concerned by the news."
One question that has been circulating amidst this sad news is: will there be a national bank holiday in the UK, if the Queen does pass away?

Will there be a bank holiday if the Queen passes away?
A national day of mourning will be held on the day of the Queen's funeral. While it has similarities to a bank holiday, the country will not label it as one.
For instance, if the Queen's funeral fell on a weekend day, there would be no 'bank holiday'. But, if the funeral took place on a weekday, then that day would effectively become a bank holiday.
However, the UK Government is understood to not be planning to order all employers to give their staff a day off in the event of the Queen's death, and subsequent funeral service.
