The Commonwealth Games begin today (July 28). This year the games are returning to British soil for the first time since 2014 and are being held in Birmingham.
The international multi-sport event dates back to 1930, and sees athletes from the Commonwealth of Nations compete against each other in a number of sports including cricket, swimming, gymnastics and even beach volleyball.
The 2022 Commonwealth Games will run until Monday, August 8.
The games hold a close place in the Queen's heart, and she's opened the events many times in locations all over the world.
With the event returning to home ground, fans of the Royal Family have been hoping that the monarch will make an appearance.
Here's everything we know about whether the Queen will be at the Commonwealth Games and the other royals set to attend.
Will the Queen attend the 2022 Commonwealth Games?
Buckingham Palace has confirmed that the Queen won't be attending the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
This year's games are the first since Prince Phillip 's death, who previously accompanied the monarch to opening ceremonies of the games.
The last time the Queen attended a Commonwealth Games was in 2014, when they were held in Glasgow.
Although the competition is returning to the UK, the Queen still won't be making an appearance.
Her absence comes as she's been forced to cancel a number of appearances this year.
In May she stepped out of attending the Opening of Parliament, which she had only ever missed twice while she was pregnant.
The Palace confirmed that she wouldn't attend due to "episodic mobility problems".
In June, Her Majesty was forced to pull out of another prestigious event, the Platinum Jubilee Thanksgiving service in her honour.
This year she has also not hosted any of the annual royal garden parties, with other members of the Royal Family having to step in for her instead.
Who is stepping in for the Queen at the Commonwealth Games?
The Palace has confirmed that Prince Charles will be stepping in for the Queen for the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games today.
Charles will deliver a speech at the opening ceremony and he will also read The Queen’s message for the Commonwealth Games, which was placed into the Commonwealth Games Baton by the Her Majesty on October 7, and has since been on a 294-day journey to all 72 Commonwealth nations.
Charles will be accompanied by his wife, Camilla Parker Bowles and the The Earl and Countess of Wessex will also be attending the opening ceremony.
Many other royals are also expected to attend events throughout the Commonwealth Games.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, The Princess Royal and The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester are all set to make appearances.
