Will Storm Malik hit Ireland? Met Eireann confirm storm's path as weather warning issued

Storm Malik is set to cause a bit of damage as it sweeps across Europe - but Met Eireann have said it is probably going to miss Ireland.

However, they have put a yellow weather warning in place for Donegal.

Although the more substantial impacts are expected in Denmark on Sunday, Storm Malik’s track will glance northern areas of the UK on Saturday, bringing high winds to much of Scotland, Northern Ireland, northern England and the north of Ireland.

Wind could get up to 7Omph in some areas - and the challenging conditions are expected to last for three days, UK forecasters say.

But Met Éireann have confirmed that the worst of the weather should avoid these shores.

Gusts of up to 100 km/h are expected to batter Donegal over the weekend.

The warning comes into place overnight, kicking in at 3am on Saturday morning and lasts for six hours until 9am.

It reads: "Southwest to west winds will reach mean speeds of 50 to 65 km/h with gusts of up to 100 km/h, higher in coastal areas and on high ground."

On top of that, the UK Met Office have issued a similar warning for Antrim, Armagh, Down, Tyrone, Derry, saying that "strong westerly winds will bring some disruption on Saturday to Scotland, parts of Northern Ireland and northern England"

The warning for the Northern Irish counties lasts a little longer, coming into effect at 4am on Saturday morning and a second warning lasting until Monday.

Overall, the picture is looking fairly settled elsewhere according to the latest predictions from the Met Eireann boffins.
