Will Smith son Jaden defends dad's Chris Rock smack after comic insulted his mum

Jaden Smith has revealed he was reduced to tears by his father Will's speech for Best Actor at the Oscars on Sunday night, after the Hollywood star smacked Chris Rock.

The rapper, 23, took to Twitter to stand up for his dad who had earlier in the ceremony hit comedian Chris, 57, for poking fun at his wife Jada Pinkett-Smith, 50, who suffers from alopecia, over her shaven head.

Jaden said he was overcome with emotion when Will, 53, spoke of "protecting my family" as he accepted the award for King Richard after the on-stage punch.

In the now-deleted Tweets, he wrote: "My Dad's Speech Made Me Cry", as he posted a selfie covering his eyes with sunglasses.

He added: "And That's How We Do It".

While Jaden took to social media, his sister Willow, 21, is yet to comment.

Hollywood watched in shock as Chris's joke "Jada, can't wait for GI Jane 2", made the actor get up on stage, slap the presenter, before returning to his seat and yelling: "Keep my wife's name out of your f****** mouth."

The 1997 film GI Jane follows Demi Moore playing Jordan O'Neill, a female lieutenant, who sports a buzzcut, as she tries to earn her place in Navy SEALs.

Will saw red as Jada has been open about her struggle with hair loss and spoke in his winning speech about the importance of standing up for those closest to him.

The actor broke down in tears as he said: "I want to apologise to the Academy, I want to apologise to all my fellow nominees.

"This is a beautiful moment and I'm not crying for winning an award, it's not about winning an award for me, it's about being able to shine a light on all of the people.

"Art imitates life, I look like the crazy father, just like they said about Richard Williams, but love will make you do crazy things."

Talking about his portrayal of Venus and Serena Williams father, he added "Richard Williams was a fierce defender of his family.

"In this time in my life, in this moment, I am overwhelmed by what God is calling me to do and be in this world."

"I'm being called on in my life to love people and to protect people and to be a river to my people.

"I know to do what we do you've got to be able to take abuse, you've got to be able to have people talk crazy about you in this business.

"You've got to be able have people disrespecting you and you've got to smile and pretend like that's OK."

The Academy later released a statement saying it didn't condone violence. It read: "The Academy does not condone violence of any form," the organisation tweeted after the show ended on Sunday night.

"Tonight we are delighted to celebrate our 94th Academy Awards winners, who deserve this moment of recognition from their peers and movie lovers around the world."
