Will Smith appeared to laugh off the controversy he sparked by slapping Chris Rock across the face at the Oscars.
The star, who won Best Actor for his leading role in King Richard, stormed the stage to slap Chris after the comedian made a joke about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith.
Chris had told Jada he was excited to see her in GI Jane 2, referencing how Demi Moore famously shaved her head for the role.
But Jada, who has alopecia, didn't see the funny side of having her condition mocked, and looked upset about being made the butt of a joke.
It was at that moment that Will stormed the stage and then shouted at Chris, telling him: "Keep my wife's name out your f***ing mouth."
Fans took to his Instagram account to let him know exactly what they thought, with opinion very divided.
While some praised Will for defending his wife's honour, others told him his reaction was uncalled for and said they'd be unfollowing him on the social media platform.
After seeing the backlash, Will seemed to suggest that he wasn't taking the whole thing too seriously by commenting: "You can’t invite people from Philly or Baltimore nowhere!!"
He was referring to his hometown of Philadelphia and Jada's hometown of Baltimore.
His comment was added to a video that he'd captioned: "Me ‘n @jadapinkettsmith got all dressed up to choose chaos".
In the clip, they walked towards each other to embrace while dressed to the nines for the glitzy ceremony.
Never ones to take themselves too seriously, the married couple pulled a series of faces and struck different poses for the camera.
One shocked fan wrote in the comments: "No way you just did that Will …."
But another admonished Chris, writing: "Chris Rock said what now???"
"And Choose chaos you did," another laughed.
Many were unhappy, with one telling Will: "Will I hope Chris sues".
While another commented: "Wtf dude... chill out!!!"
And a third penned: "Come on, as a comedian yourself you know Chris was joking at this point in your career you can’t take a joke that was completely out of hand."
"You were so inappropriate tonight responding with violence. So disappointing in your reaction. Violence is never the answer," one fumed.
