Will Raiders WR Tre Tucker have a role on offense in 2023?

One of the more interesting picks that the Raiders made in the 2023 NFL Draft was the selection of Tre Tucker. After running a 4.40 at the combine, Tucker was considered one of the best speed receivers in the draft.

But what will his role be with the Raiders during the 2023 season? Or will he even have one after the Raiders signed Jakobi Meyers this offseason to pair with Davante Adams and Hunter Renfrow?

In a recent article by Rotoworld, they discussed the Raiders at length heading into the 2023 season. They broke down the entire starting offense, including Tucker. Here is what Patrick Daughtry of Rotoworld had to say about the third-round pick from Cincinnati:

In theory, third-round receiver Tre Tucker is the only other pass-catching name worth monitoring, but the 5-foot-9 Cincinnati product profiles as a slot-only option. There is almost zero chance he commands significant attention behind Meyers and Renfrow. Even were Renfrow to be dealt, Tucker won’t come into re-draft relevance.

The selection of Tucker was meant to give the Raiders more speed on offense, but also as an insurance policy for Renfrow. The Raiders have Renfrow under contract through the 2024 season, but it seems likely that he won’t be on the roster next year as the team could trade or release him.

Tucker will likely fight for the No. 4 receiver spot this year, playing a handful of snaps each week. But if there were an injury or a trade of Renfrow, that’s when we should expect his role to grow in the offense. But until then expect him to be more of a complementary player in Las Vegas.
