Will Mike Tomlin’s no-trade clause prevent potential blockbuster Bears trade?

The trade speculation began when insider Adam Schefter pointed out that many teams could call the Pittsburgh Steelers about a potential trade for HC Mike Tomlin.  Fans should keep their eyes on the Chicago Bears and their GM, Ryan Poles, who are in the market for a big-name head coach.

As exciting as predicting Tomlin’s theoretical trade value might be, news surrounding the head coach’s no-trade clause quickly dashed the hopes of those longing for a change in the Steel City.

Obviously, the Steelers could still attempt to convince Tomlin to waive the clause if the destination aligns with his preferences, but there is no indication that Pittsburgh or Tomlin would entertain the idea.

ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith—a well-known Steelers supporter—argued that a change of scenery might be best for both the organization and Tomlin and pondered whether the Steelers’ head coach should consider moving to the Chicago Bears.

Once again, none of this could take shape unless Tomlin agreed to waive the no-trade clause in his contract. However, both the Pittsburgh Steelers and Tomlin could stand to benefit: the Steelers would likely receive substantial draft capital in 2025 and beyond, and Tomlin would gain the opportunity to pursue playoff success elsewhere.
