Locals in Cork may just spot Ed Sheeran out and about after his Páirc Uí Chaoimh gigs this weekend as he revealed his plans for his time in between shows.

His two nights at the Cork venue kick off tonight with a crowd of over 44,000 as he plays some of his greatest hits to adoring fans.

Speaking about his plans for after the show, he said: “I will definitely head out for a couple.”

However, with his daughter on tour with him, he said: “Lie-ins are no longer a thing now that my daughter is on tour with me so I’m trying to go a little bit easier.”

The Mathematics tour has brought the singer-songwriter back to the south of Ireland for the first time in four years and speaking of his last trip here in 2018, he said: “I have a bunch of cousins and uncles and aunts that live there so I just hung out with them and got taken around.

"I think I was writing for this record, so I was in the studio as well at the same time.”

Fans will be in for a treat with the planned setlist, with elements from each of his best-selling albums.

“There’s going to be different sets each night with different songs which will be good,” he said.

Sheeran described the stage as being “like a spaceship” with fans across the venue getting perfect views of the show as the stage "does so many things.

"There's basically parts of it that move up and down and it moves around."

Kicking off his two Cork concerts, Ed Sheeran is due to take to the 360-degree rotating stage after a performance from Denise Chaila, who will open the show at 6 pm.

Ed Sheeran is expected onstage from 8 pm until 10.30 pm - although all times are subject to change.
