Will Aaron Rodgers Be Able To Find Another Job In the NFL?

It wasn’t more than 15 months ago when Aaron Rodgers was supposed to be the quarterback to save the New York Jets. But things have unraveled for Gang Green, and one of the greatest to ever play his position could find himself without a job in 2025, or maybe even sooner.

Aaron Rodgers Could Be Benched This Season

There were hopes that Rodgers could return to his old self in 2024. After suffering a season-ending Achilles injury in his first game with the Jets last year, there were questions about how he’d perform in his comeback season at the ripe age of 40. He had already seen a decline in his production in his final healthy year in Green Bay, and the added injury and advancing age concerns made it an uphill climb for Rodgers to become the dominant player that he once was.

Those who doubted him have enjoyed their vindication this year. A season of expectations has turned into a 3-8 start for the Jets, and Rodgers has looked anything like the MVP-caliber that he once was. Not only are his numbers down across the board, but gone is any late-game or situational aura that he has typically been known for.

But his on-field struggles are just the start of the issues for the Jets and their quarterback. The team has done everything they can over the past couple of seasons to make Rodgers a happy camper, which started with bringing in his old teammates and friends. But recent personnel moves have many wondering just how much pull he has with the organization, as they have fired both their head coach and general manager within the last 6 weeks.

Things have gotten so bad that, according to a report from The Athletic, the Jets might be benching Aaron Rodgers at some point before the end of the current season.

What will the future hold for him? Will any NFL team be interested in his services in 2025? And if so, in what capacity?

What Will The Market Be Like For Rodgers?

Even when he was making his departure from Green Bay, the market for Rodgers wasn’t exactly robust. There were only a handful of teams that showed any type of interest in the then-39-year-old, and he has done far more damage to his reputation rather than build it back up in the time since.

There will be few teams that are going to be willing to take on a 41-year-old quarterback who is obviously well past his prime, and even fewer who will accept the baggage that comes with adding him to a roster. Teams like the Giants, Raiders, and Titans will almost certainly be looking to add a quarterback during the upcoming off-season, but are more likely to look at younger options.

There would be role and money issues, as well. Rodgers would almost certainly demand a starting spot with any team that he signs with, and he would attempt to keep his price tag as high as possible as well. He would have to mesh well with any offensive coordinator and head coach that takes a chance on him, too. Given all of those factors, it is difficult to see any team making the plunge for Aaron Rodgers next season or beyond.

After a 2-1 start to the season, Rodgers and the Jets have lost 7 out of their last 8 games. They are currently enjoying their bye during Week 12, and will take on the Seattle Seahawks when they return to action on December 1st.
