Wilko shoppers left divided as some boycott shop over new dog rules

Dog owners will know the struggle of wanting to go to the shops whilst also not wanting to leave your dog at home.

And thanks to Wilko's new rules, this is no longer an issue as they are now allowing shoppers to bring their canine companions inside to each of their 248 locations across the UK.

They announced the move on Facebook and said: "A pet is more than just a pet, they’re family. That’s why we’ve decided to welcome pets in-store at 248 of our locations.

"We hope that shoppers will enjoy bringing their furry friends along with them.

"Please check for new signage at the entrance of your local store to see if they are participating."

However the post has since divided shoppers with many welcoming the furry friends and others wanting to boycott the shop altogether.

Customers quickly took to social media to share their thoughts about the dog rules with one stating that guide dogs are fine but others are not.

One said: "Its a nice gesture, but not everyone likes dogs, even well behaved ones. As a child, I was terrified of them and no amount of "he/she is really friendly" will cut it if you are scared. I can see this backfiring on Wilko when an incident occurs.

"You are not a pet shop, dog owners can socialise their pets elsewhere, shoppers shouldn't need to worry about being confronted by a dog whilst buying wallpaper, toilet rolls and biscuits. Assistance dogs are one thing, but not all dogs!"

A second added: "This is no good for my child that has anaphylaxis reactions to animal dander and saliva. "Service dogs have their place in stores and we can avoid them and monitor, they are well behaved etc.. pets do not belong in stores and raises the risk for my son to come in contact with areas that have been contaminated!

"We won't be shopping in your all dogs welcome stores!"

However whilst some were not so happy about it, it was a relief for many.

One said: "Great news! Why do people assume dogs will mess everywhere and attack! Also saying they're disgusting. How you speak about and treat animals tells me everything I need to know about a person. Well done Wilko!!

A second commented: "Brilliant wish all shops would do this."

Do you agree with them? Should dogs be allowed in stores?
