Wilko has launched a gardening range that fans say is "great value for money" as spring planting season approaches.
The sunshine has inspired many people to get out their spades and soil, but achieving a garden blooming with plants and flowers will take time - as well as lots of prepping and planning well in advance. For gardeners on a budget, though, seed packets have been spotted in Wilko for as little as 25 pence.
Its Avonmeads branch is among those in Bristol stocking the range, with an entire aisle packed with rows of flower and vegetable seeds. Orange marigold, evening primrose and tiny daises are among the varieties retailing for £0.25, with plenty more priced at 50 pence and upwards.

Both the Wilko website and Instagram account have been flooded with feedback, following the release of the range in stores. On Instagram, Wilko reposted a photo shared by user @allotment.plot.18, captioning it: “Check out this incredible seed haul by @allotment.plot.18. Who else is prepping their garden ready for the spring?”
In the comments section one user commented her approval of the prices, writing: “Great value for money and all of mine always flourish.” Another user and gardening enthusiast added: “Would love to, thank you @lovewilko thank you also for the encouragement, small steps…. Big step.”
On the Wilko website, one reviewer said the brand’s £1 Red Flowers for Wildlife Mix Seeds are “easy to sow and value for money”. They wrote: “Gorgeous colours and mixture of plants shown on the box, I hope they look as good when they grow. It's too early to plant yet, but it all looks easy and they are good value for money.”
Another reviewer described the Wilko Achillea Yarrow Seeds as “lovely”, adding: “I decided to plant these in tubs this year with other wild flowers and they haven't disappointed me, they look lovely. Will be transplanting them later somewhere in my garden in autumn.”
The Wilko White Flowers for Wildlife Mix Seeds for £1 were “really good value for money” according to a third shopper, who wrote: “I thought these looked like pretty little white flowers that I would interplant in patio pots as contrast flowers with other similarly low growing flowers like Lobelia, Busy Lizzie, Begonia and Marigolds. Fingers crossed!"
Not everyone was so complimentary, with one shopper raising issue with the 50 pack of Butterfly Collection Spring Planting Bulbs. They wrote: “Lovely assortment. Some bulbs were unfortunately dead. But Wilko responded quickly and a refund was issued due to them being out of stock.”
Gardening fans in Bristol have a range of garden centres on their doorstep including a new one at NEXT in Cribbs Causeway, as part of a partnership announced by Homebase earlier this month.
