Wilfried Zaha and Joachim Andersen among Palace stars up for Fans' Footballer of the Year award

It’s been a year of steady progress for Crystal Palace, with the Eagles continuing to make strides under Patrick Vieira.

Sat in 11th place in the Premier League during the World Cup break, the Eagles’ recent upturn in form has given them a fairer reflection of where they should be following a slow start to the season that saw them suffer some arguably unjust results.

Whilst it may have been steady progress instead of immediate success at Selhurst Park, there have still been some standout moments in 2022, such as comfortable wins over the likes of Aston Villa and West Ham this season and a brilliant 3-0 win against Arsenal at the end of the last campaign.

Four players in particular have stood out, becoming nominated for the club’s Fans’ Footballer of the Year Award.

From the Eagles’ talismanic attacking figure to a defender who has become a key player in the club’s backline, helping Vieira’s side see out some tight victories, these players have captured the limelight in one way or another.

Wilfried Zaha

Once again, the Palace talisman has delivered for the Eagles, with six goals this season to add to his 15 last term. Now 30, he is one of the more experienced players in the Palace dressing room and he has benefited from the performances of Ebere Eze and Michael Olise, which have taken some of the burden from him, while he is helping to guide them too.

Ebere Eze

The former Queens Park Rangers man is starting to show more of what he can do, with his skill, ability to take players on and create for others. He has come back from a serious injury and is now stepping up to become a regular in Patrick Vieira’s side, leading to him being considered as having an outside chance of an England call-up, which may come in time.

Vicente Guaita

The Spaniard has competition for his place from Jack Butland and Sam Johnstone, but his performances in goal have ensured he has remained as the number one for Palace. Time and again he has rescued the Eagles with his shot-stopping and at 35, he still has time ahead of him on his contract, with the club having the option to extend it.

Joachim Andersen

The Dane has been a key player for Patrick Vieira and Palace. He has forged a successful partnership at the back with Marc Guehi and he is missed when he is not available. A steady and commanding presence at the back, he has helped the Eagles close out some tight games, and is fully deserving of his place in the Denmark squad for the World Cup.
