Leeds United star Wilfried Gnonto has echoed the past words of Manchester City forward Erling Haaland in his assessment of Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk.
The 19-year-old has already become a fan favourite during his short time at Elland Road, and actually has a positive record in matches against the Dutch giant having beaten Jurgen Klopp's side at Anfield earlier on in the season, having been involved in the move that saw Crysencio Summerville's late winner.
However, during a media appearance for the Premier League's ePL uncut series, Gnonto was full of praise for the Liverpool defender.

"I would probably say [I'd prefer] Van Dijk," he said as he decided between him and Manchester City defender Ruben Dias to use in a game of FIFA 23 against Leeds' ePL representative Ollelito. "I haven’t played against Ruben Dias, so I can’t say [who is better in real life]. I’m lucky. But Van Dijk is incredible. He’s strong, he’s fast as well, good on the ball."
Gnonto's words are similar to those of Dias' teammate Haaland, who has previously claimed that the Reds number four is his toughest opponent in the Premier League.
Speaking before his move to the Citizens in the summer, the Norwegian, who has already scored 42 goals in a City shirt this season, branded Van Dijk as a 'physical monster' much like how Gnonto did.
"You know how tall he is, how strong he is and how fast he is, and also the timing is crazy," Haaland told ESPN back in 2022. "I don't think I won one duel against him because he's a physical monster."
