Wildfire rips through Scots farm sparking fears for animals

A raging wildfire has ripped through a farm in Fife promoting fears for the welfare of livestock.

Emergency crews raced to Craigs Farm, Kinglassie Road, Cardenden last night after the alarm was raised around 8pm.

Firefighters worked for over an hour to tackle the blaze as it took hold of bushes and other shrubbery.

Photos taken at the scene show smoke and flames billowing from an area of gorse.

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service have confirmed that no-one was injured as a result of the event, but it is not yet known whether any animals were injured.

The Rescue Service said, however, that the fire has now been extinguished and the area in general made safe.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 7.53pm on Wednesday, April 27 to reports of a fire in the open in Cardenden, Fife.

"Operations Control mobilised one appliance to Kinglassie Road, where firefighters were met by a large area of gorse on fire.

"Firefighters extinguished the fire and worked to make the area safe before leaving the scene.

"There were no casualties."

It comes after a separate wildfire in Kyle of Lochalsh saw firefighters work through the night as flames tore through the village.

Six crews from Skye and the Highlands were scrambled to the blaze in Western Ross-shire at around 10.20am yesterday.

Four fire engines remain at the scene today as the emergency workers continue to tackle the inferno.

Dramatic images show bright flames illuminating the hills and plumes of smoke ascending into the sky overhead as the fire, which is believed to have broken out on a large patch of heather, grows three miles long.
