A WILDFIRE has broken out near Inverness, prompting a road closure and an emergency response.
Six Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) fire appliances are in attendance at the fire, located by the B861 road between Cuthduthel and Inverarnie.
The road has been closed a result of smoke clouds restricting vision in the area.
A spokesperson for SFRS said: “We were alerted at 10.14am on Friday, March 21, to reports of a wildfire off the B861 between Inverness and Farr.
“Operations Control have mobilised six fire appliances and special resources to the scene.
“Firefighters continue to work to bring the wildfire under control.
“There is no immediate threat to life or nearby property.”
The news comes as firefighters warned of the risk of extreme wildfires across Scotland bringing “devastation” to farmland, wildlife and woodland.
SFRS has urged people who live within or who may enter rural environments to exercise caution.
On Friday, the extreme danger assessment covers all low-lying areas in Scotland.
