Wild Youth open up on nerves ahead of Eurovision semi-finals in Liverpool

Wild Youth’s lead singer Conor O’Donohoe has admitted feeling nervous ahead of tomorrow night’s Eurovision semi-finals in Liverpool.

"There’s definitely nerves. I think that’s always a good thing. I always say if you have nerves it just means you really care," the singer said on this morning’s Ireland AM.

"I hope we can do everyone proud. I feel we’ve landed in a very good place.

"We're very happy with how everything looks so it’s down to us now to give the best performance."

The Dublin band recently found themselves immersed in controversy after they fired their choreographer, Ian Banham, with Harry Potter author, JK Rowling wading into the row.

Speaking about the furore, Conor said: "It’s definitely crazy. We’re so in it though. We’ve kind of been travelling, doing shows for the last four or five weeks. We don’t get to see it all.

"The only updates I really get are from my dad on screen chat," the singer revealed.

"I just hope we flourish and get to give the best performance ever."

Conor admitted being flattered by the support of TV legend Graham Norton.

"He knows the competition better than anyone so to get his seal of approval was incredible," he said.

Meanwhile Conor’s bandmate David Whelan spoke of the "brilliant atmosphere backstage" earlier today.

He said: "Everything has definitely risen in intensity today compared to the last few days, definitely!

"There's such a brilliant atmosphere backstage between all of the delegations, and we have met a lot of brilliant new friends along the way.

"But we all know it is a competition at the end of the day and that's really sinking in now.

"We have a couple of dress rehearsals ahead of us before tomorrow night which are full run-throughs of the show."

The Eurovision semi-finals will air on RTÉ One at 8pm tomorrow.
