The UK is set to experience a mix of spring-like conditions throughout the week, according to the Met Office. Forecasters predict a combination of showers, sunny spells, and colder mornings as the meteorological spring officially begins on March 1.
Meteorologist Alex Burkill provided an overview of the upcoming weather, stating: “Monday night into Tuesday, not a huge amount going on if we look at the bigger picture, but there is an occluded front pushing into parts of the northwest into Tuesday morning, and it’s here that we’re going to see some fairly frequent showers from the start on Tuesday.”
Tuesday will bring frequent showers to the northwest, while the south and east will enjoy a drier and brighter start. As the day progresses, showers will become more widespread, although southeastern areas have a greater chance of staying dry. There will be intermittent sunny spells, but some showers could be heavy, with hail and thunder possible, particularly in northwestern regions. Scotland’s hills and mountains may even see sleet or snow.
Despite the unsettled weather, temperatures will remain around or slightly above average. The Met Office forecasts highs in the low double digits for southern regions, while the north will see temperatures reach high single figures at best.

As Tuesday night transitions into Wednesday, showers will fade, leading to a chilly start to the day, especially in eastern areas. Cloud cover will increase in the west, accompanied by strengthening winds as another weather system moves in. Mr Burkill added: “There could be some murkiness, some mist and fog across eastern parts first thing, but this should clear in the morning.”
Temperatures will be slightly lower than on Tuesday, with highs reaching double digits in southern areas. The weather system will push eastward, followed by a ridge of high pressure bringing calmer conditions. However, lingering rainfall may persist longer than expected in some regions.
Thursday is expected to be largely dry, with temperatures reaching high single digits in the north and just touching double digits in the south. By Friday, high pressure will dominate, bringing more settled but cooler weather. The day will start chilly with frost expected in some areas, and freezing fog may take time to clear. However, temperatures will eventually reach 10-11°C in the warmest locations.
Over the weekend, another spell of rain is forecast. A band of rain will move across the southeast on Saturday, while other areas remain dry and fine. By Sunday, wet and windy conditions will return to the northwest, while the rest of the country is expected to stay relatively settled.
