Wild Ireland documentary to come to Netflix next week

Wild Ireland has become a favourite destination for locals in the North West and visitors from across the island of Ireland and beyond.

Located just over the border from Derry, in Donegal, Killian McLaughlin made it his ambition to showcase some of the forgotten wildlife that existed in Ireland over the centuries.

Killian created a unique wildlife park that will offer sanctuary to abused brown bears and other rescue animals, returning them to the forest habitats once more.

A documentary called 'Return Of The Wild – The Bearman of Buncrana' was made, originally by Moondance Productions for RTE, which followed the highs and lows that Kieran, his family and his team faced in creating the wildlife sanctuary.

Next week, on March 1, the documentary will reach a new global audience as it makes its Netflix debut.

Speaking to MyDerry, Wild Ireland creator Killian McLaughlin said: "It’s amazing to be featured on a platform like Netflix. I am delighted to show the world the great rescue work that the team do here at Wild Ireland.

"This documentary features a lot of beautiful scenery from the north west so it really puts this part of the world on the map. I always knew the animals here were stars!

"Who would have thought forgotten about bears, left to rot in a concrete cell in Lithuania would have found a sanctuary here in the forest and then got their own TV show!

"It’s wonderful to have the rescue work that we do acknowledged on the international stage and hopefully it will bring lots of visitors to this part of the world, which of course are badly needed after the years of the pandemic."

'Return Of The Wild – The Bearman of Buncrana' comes to Netflix on Wednesday March 1.
