Count Eli and Peyton Manning among those who were absolutely floored Monday night after watching the Broncos escape with an absurd 24–22 road upset of the Bills.
The legendary brothers, alongside NFL Network’s Kyle Brandt for the end of the game, gave viewers tuning into ESPN’s ManningCast yet another memorable segment as they watched the closing moments of the bizarre Monday Night Football matchup.
With Denver trailing by one point with seven seconds left in the game, Broncos kicker Wil Lutz, after a huge Buffalo defensive pass interference penalty, missed a 41-yard field goal for the win. Initially, Lutz’s miss was met with looks of disappointment and hanging heads from the Mannings … until the officials threw a flag on Buffalo for having too many men on the field.
Upon hearing the reasoning for the flag, neither could hide their disdain, with Eli putting his hands on his head and Peyton dishing out a mean eyeroll before sitting in silence.
“Oh my goodness. Oh. My. Goodness,” said Eli in disbelief. “You’ve got to be kidding me.”
Much to the chagrin of Bills fans, the awkward moment only got worse after Eli perfectly described what many people were likely thinking in the moment after watching Lutz make his second try from 36 yards to win it.
“What a way to lose a game,” he said. “That hurts.”
