CASSIE WILD believes she’s getting back to her best after taking silver in the 200 metres backstroke last night at the Glasgow International Swim Meet.
The 2021 European Championship silver medallist was pipped by just 28-hundredths of a second in the final by Loughborough’s teen prospect Honey Osrin.
But after missing out on selection for next month’s world championships, the Tokyo Olympic semi-finalist is slowly bouncing back ahead of the Commonwealth Games.
Wild said: “That’s the first time this year I’ve done the 200 back long course, so I just wanted to get back in and get used to swimming it again.
“This meet is about tactics and trying to get on top of them again – but also getting used to the discomfort again – the 200 is hard.
“Trials wasn’t at all what I wanted it to be, so I’m just trying to move it on from there. I’ve struggled with illness, I’ve had my shoulder injury and I wasn’t swimming for quite a while so it’s kind of nice to feel like my old self again.”
Keanna Macinnes won the women’s 100m butterfly ahead of Scotland team-mate Tain Bruce and Lucy Hope was second in the 50m freestyle.
Craig Benson tuned up for Birmingham by winning the 50m breaststroke while, in the absence of late withdrawal Duncan Scott, Jamie Robertson and Martyn Walton made it a Stirling University 1-2 in the men’s 50m free.
Meanwhile Scottish star Grace Reid was piped to victory by Yasmin Harper in the women’s 1m springboard final on the opening night of the British Diving Championships in Sheffield.
James Heatly, already selected for Commonwealths, took bronze in the men’s 1m final as Olympic gold medallist Jack Laugher topped the standings.
