The Super Bowl was a bad night for Taylor Swift, who was booed as she watched her partner, Travis Kelce, end up on the losing side.
The Philadelphia Eagles managed to beat Kelce’s Kansas City Chiefs 40-22 in the climax of the American football season in New Orleans on Sunday night.
Donald Trump made history by becoming the first US president to attend the Super Bowl and enjoyed Swift being booed.
Mr Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform: “The only one that had a tougher night than the Kansas City Chiefs was Taylor Swift. She got BOOED out of the Stadium. MAGA is very unforgiving!”.
Last year, it had been an altogether different fare, with Swift being cheered by a Nevada stadium as the Chiefs clinched their second Super Bowl in a row.
Sitting next to rapper Ice Spice, Swift gave a bit of a side-eye and wrinkled her nose when she realised the booing was directed at her.
She had flown in especially for the game but was left disappointed at the result, as well as a greeting that was not befitting of the ovations she earned on her Eras Tour.
And predictions that Kelce would propose after the game also did not materialise – that we know of, at least.
Why was Taylor Swift booed?
It was a different reception to the last time Swift was at the New Orleans venue, when she played three nights last October as part of the Eras Tour.
While impossible to state the motivations for all of the 65,000 inside Caesars Superdome, we can speculate as to why some of the fans behaved as they did.
They were fans of the Eagles
It was a heavily pro-Eagles crowd who booed when Swift was shown on the video boards inside the Superdome during a break in the first quarter.
Swift is now heavily associated with the Chiefs since she and Kelce started dating in September 2023.
It was estimated that as many as 80 per cent of the crowd could be Eagles fans.
They were fans of Donald Trump
It was well reported that Mr Trump would be in attendance and he is known to not be a fan of the singer. Swift had endorsed his rival Kamala Harris for the 2024 election.
They don’t like her music
It’s also possible that, with The Tortured Poets Department being released since the last Super Bowl, fans have simply gone off her. Not everyone is a Swiftie.
