Pedro Porro will soon get to wear a Tottenham Hotspur shirt for the very first time. Following a long month with plenty of speculation surrounding his future, as well a late change of heart from Sporting CP on Monday morning over the transfer details, the Spaniard will complete his move to Spurs ahead of Tuesday's 11pm transfer deadline.
Expected to join the Lilywhites permanently, football.london understands that Porro will in fact join the club on an initial loan deal from Sporting CP. However, the move will become permanent in the summer as the agreement contains an obligation for Tottenham to buy the ex-Man City man.
So why exactly are Spurs signing the player on loan rather than permanently on deadline day?

football.london understands the loan deal has been done that way to fit in with Sporting's financial commitments. They need it to show in the next financial year, so the two clubs found a solution to still be able to sign the player now rather than wait until the summer.
Porro, as expected, will become a permanent Tottenham player but, for now, he will sign on loan to begin with. Tottenham have looked to structure deals in a similar way over the past 18 months after Pierluigi Gollini, Cristian Romero and Dejan Kulusevski all joined on loan with the club able to make the deals permanent.
The signing of Porro from Sporting will hopefully see Antonio Conte get plenty of joy from the right wing-back position after their struggles in that area over the past 12 months. The Spaniard has three goals and 11 assists to his name in his 26 games for Sporting CP this season, thus demonstrating that he could potentially have a big impact in the final third for Tottenham in what remains of the season.
Porro isn't the only right wing-back deal Spurs will sign off before the deadline as his arrival will see two players exit. Djed Spence is in France to complete a loan move to Rennes, with Matt Doherty set to reunite with Tottenham teammate Sergio Reguilon at Atletico Madrid on a loan deal.
Atleti were interested in wrapping up a loan move for Spence but the England Under-21 star instead opted to join Rennes with more regular first-team football on offer. Porro could potentially make his Tottenham debut against former club Man City at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
