Why this Scottish location is one of the best honeymoon spots anywhere in the UK

A Scottish location has been named one of the best honeymoon spots anywhere in the UK by The Times newspaper.

The list featured places from across the country, including Bath in Somerset, The Norfolk Broads and the Peak District in Derbyshire.

Introducing its best-of list, the publication said that after the stresses of a wedding have passed, newly married couples want nothing more than to enjoy a relaxing honeymoon.

Because of this many opt to honeymoon somewhere in the UK, avoiding busy airports and the worry of cancelled flights.

Why this Scottish location was named one of the best honeymoon spots in the UK

Wester Ross in the Scottish Highlands was named one of the best honeymoon spots in the UK by The Times.

Discussing the spot, the newspaper said that the only thing more "wildly romantic" than the Highlands’ pristine landscapes is the Torridon Hotel.

The hotel is a turreted Victorian country house surrounded by a sea loch, "soaring" snow-capped mountains and scented pine forests.

It added that you’ll see more otters than boats in the water and more golden eagles than people on long walks.

However, it explained that things get more "cosmopolitan" indoors thanks to "sophisticated suites", award-winning dining and a whisky bar with more than 365 classic and rare malts, something the title calls "a fabulous excuse to stay a year and try one a day."

On Tripadvisor, the hotel has received a rating of 4.5/5 out of 1,352 reviews with one user writing: "A beautiful hotel in a stunning location. We planned our trip around Scotland on a stay in the stables accommodation here.

"We were made to feel very welcome by the receptionist Camilla when we arrived and taken to our room which was spacious and the bed very comfortable."

Another added: "Stunning hotel for our 30th wedding anniversary. We enjoyed afternoon tea as well as dinner at both Bo & Muc and 1887 restaurant."

Wester Ross was the only Scottish destination featured on the list, taking the seventh spot.
