Derrick Henry wants some well-deserved hardware before he rides off into the sunset like any player who hasn’t tasted the sweet victory of a Super Bowl.
Not yet having that coveted accomplishment on his stellar resume is the only thing keeping him from being a sure-fire Hall of Fame candidate.
Henry, 30, is an All-Pro and four-time Pro Bowler who’s posted 1,000+ yards in five of his eight seasons and topped 2,000 yards in 2020. Oh, and he’s scored 93 total touchdowns, good for third among active players.
As a team that’s been on the brink of the Big Show for five of the last six seasons, the Baltimore Ravens is the perfect spot for him. They have J.K. Dobbins, who, when healthy, can help take some of the load off his high-mileage tires.
Henry never had the luxury of a guy like Lamar Jackson at his offense’s helm, and Jackson’s never had a running back like Henry. For as much as he’s grown in his young career, the two-time league MVP hasn’t been much of a threat to the Steelers’ defense in years past.
To date, neither has Henry.
In three out of four games he’s played against Pittsburgh, Henry has managed 182 yards and only two touchdowns. 60 yards per game is nothing to scoff at these days — but for a guy who puts up 1,000 yards in his sleep, the Steelers’ defense has held him in check.
