Stephen Robinson insists his team’s first-half performance against Livingston was “fantastic” — but has challenged his St Mirren stars to build on their sparkling success.
The 3-0 triumph over the Lions was only the third time Saints have scored three in one game this season, with it being one of their most convincing wins at such a crucial time in the campaign.
Two penalties from Mark O'Hara and a Tony Watt strike sank the men from West Lothian.
Boss Robinson credited his side’s energy and pressure with the Northern Irishman, saying the Buddies quality often gets “overlooked” at times.
Having started an important run of four games with a victory, Robinson points out that not building on this will count for nothing if they don’t go and collect points elsewhere.
He also reaffirmed that getting St Mirren into the Premiership top six would be the biggest achievement in his managerial career.
“This was always an important game but my point was it wasn’t do or die,” Robinson said. “We had four games and there is no point in winning this game and not getting any points in the next three.
“We know that going to Tynecastle and Ibrox next is a tough challenge but certainly one that we are not phased by. For Livingston and St Mirren to be anywhere near the top six at this stage in the season is credit to both clubs and both sets of players.
“There is a lot of competition and a lot of good teams. We don’t get too carried away and we don’t listen to noise when we lose
games and when we win we remind each other what we did very well.
“When you stop doing them things then you stop winning football matches. I have already stated that getting this club into the top six would be my biggest achievement.
“I have got the cup finals and coached at the Euros and those little things.
"With what has gone on, and the cuts with the amount of staff; with this group of players, I would be delighted to see them do it.”
