Why Simon Cowell looks slimmer after being temporary paralysed

Simon Cowell has been spotted looking sporting a slim waist and trim physique - but there is something he wears which may be responsible for his slimmed down appearance. It comes as the 63-year-old was forced to implement lifestyle changes after his doctor delivered damming news six years ago.

In 2017, Cowell fell down the stairs and had to be hospitalised due to low blood sugar, the doctor then told the ITV star he had one of the worst diets he had ever seen. Cowell put this down to ordering his personal chefs to make rich, luxurious dishes.

Since the health scare, Cowell has gone on to reportedly lose around four stone and has cut out four key food groups - gluten and bread, red meat, dairy and sugar. Cowell is said to now have such a strict diet that when he meets people at a restaurant he refuses to eat anything, instead he has a meal at home before going out.

The father-of-one has also become a keen cyclist, going around 10 miles a day in the saddle. However, he suffered a horrifying accident while cycling in August 2020.

Reason Simon Cowell looks slimmer

Cowell fell off a £10,000 electric bike he was testing at his Malibu home in 2020, which resulted in the music mogul undergoing six hours of surgery and metal rods being inserted into his spine after breaking it in several places. The X Factor founder now has to wear a medical corset, which contributes to his slimmed down figure while supporting his recovery.

Speaking on Extra TV about his accident, Cowell said: "It could have been a lot worse. When I saw the X-ray, I really nearly could have smashed my spine to pieces, so I literally wouldn't have been able to walk."

"I knew I'd broken my back the minute I landed. It was really, really kind of sudden and it hurt." The incident left him temporarily paralysed, but looking back Cowell quipped: "Some good advice...If you buy an electric trail bike, read the manual before you ride it for the first time."

Just 18 months after his Malibu accident, Cowell fell off his bike again, this time in London. He was reported as having blood pouring from his face and was not wearing a helmet at the time.
