HYDERABAD: The central government will look into the issue of fortified rice not being supplied to many anganwadi centres in Telangana.
Nalgonda MP N Uttam Kumar Reddy, who raised the issue in Lok Sabha, later told mediapersons that women and child development minister Smriti Irani gave him an assurance to this effect. The minister stated “it’s a serious charge and a matter of investigation” and assured the House and Reddy that she will seek an explanation from Telangana government.
“Not even one grain of wheat or one grain of fortified rice has been supplied to anganwadi centres in Telangana,” Uttam said during question hour in Lok Sabha. Uttam said the Union ministry in its written reply has given details stating that a total of 19,000 tonnes of wheat, 6,000 tonnes of rice and another 19,000 tonnes of fortified rice had been supplied to the anganwadi workers under the Centre’s ration scheme.
