Why Rangers won't sack Philippe Clement after Queen's Park defeat

Richard Foster insists that serious questions need to be asked of Philippe Clement following Rangers' dismal Scottish Cup exit to Queen's Park.

However, the former Ibrox defender believes that the Belgian will hang onto his job as head coach for now.

Seb Drozd scored the only goal of the game, sending the Championship side through to the quarter-finals of the Scottish Cup.

Goalkeeper Callum Ferrie was equally the hero at the other end, as he saved a 95th-minute penalty from James Tavernier to prevent the game going to extra-time.

The result leaves Clement on extremely thin ice in his role at Rangers, with fans calling for him to go after the cup embarrassment.

However, Foster believes the Belgian won't be dismissed as the club seeks long-term stability.

“I mean it's a seismic result," the 39-year-old said on BBC Sportscene. "You don't ever want to see managers losing their job and I think he holds on to his job for now.

“But I think there will be serious questions asked in terms of the direction.

“Just when it looks like they're sowing the seeds of a revival, of a new dawn, something like this happens.

"Nothing as severe as this today has happened as of yet.

“But I think for now he keeps his job, serious questions have to be asked because Rangers today have probably regressed, I think Clement spoke about that.

“They've actually regressed back to where they were towards the start of the season.”

Clement commented post-match: "Everybody knows how hard everybody is working together so, last week, everybody was saying that the team is taking good steps, growing and creating 8th position in the Europa League.

"It's not because you lose a game where you normally have to win 99 out of 100 that things change about the way things are working.

"If you do that, you're only living in emotions and there will never be stability in this club."
